Artist's Statement & Bio
Layne Kleinart
Layne Hutchinson Kleinart grew up in Florida and lived in Seattle from 1975 to 2021, when she moved to Stillwater, Minnesota with her husband, Jack, to be near his family. She holds Fine Art degrees in Painting & Printmaking from the University of Hawaii and the University of Washington.
Kleinart's work was featured at THE PHIPPS Center for the Arts, Hudson WI; Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, WA; ZINCcontemporary - Seattle Art Fair, WA and has been included in "Visionaries - Significant Northwest Artists, Present and Future" at the Seattle Center; Bellevue Art Museum Annual (Award); Brevard Museum of Art in Florida; ABSOLUT Vodka Traveling Collection; a King County Public Art Mural Project for METRO; "Northwest Print Invitational" at Davidson Galleries; "A Printing Dialogue" at Tacoma Art Museum; "Seattle Print Arts" at Portland Art Museum; "Arte Grafico Contemporaneo Seattle" at Instituto de Artes Graficas de Oaxaco Mexico; "Seattle Print Arts Invitational" at Seattle Art Museum; "North by Northwest" at Kala Art Institute, Berkeley CA; "Printmaking Invitational" at Shenzhen Art Institute in China; "Paper Politics" at 5+5 Gallery in New York; Walker Point Art Center in Milwaukee WI; "Autobiography" at Seattle Art Museum Gallery; "Seeds of Compassion" at Friesen Gallery.

Artist Statement
Statement
Layne Kleinart has always been influenced by her environment and finds inspiration in the mystery and beauty of the plants, animals, objects and people in her life and travels. Her interest in the psychological aspect of the subject is suggested through gesture, expression, and the emotion of color.
In her painting and printmaking Kleinart mixes techniques to combine the immediacy and freshness of gestural painting with the possibility of layering information and the element of chance found in printmaking. In her installations of multiple images, Kleinart will expand and contract the size and shape of a piece depending upon the specific site. Each piece stands alone or exists as a part of a whole to create a richer 'story.'
